The recent travel chaos left thousands of passengers stranded at airports across the world. Some of them camped out on the floor, and others sought refuge in nearby hotels as they waited for news. A stay in an airport hotel might not excite you. You probably think it’s a pretty poor place to spend an extended holiday and in some ways, that’s true. I’d much rather be in the centre of Paris with all the delights of the city around me. But there are some airport hotels that have an extra level of character or comfort on offer, and that can make all the difference. If I get stranded at Charles de Gaulle on my next visit to France, you know where I’ll be headed.
Sheraton Paris Airport Hotel & Conference Centre
The shape of this hotel reminds me of a cruise liner; it’s a sleek, steely, 4-story ellipse. Inside, there is a vast central atrium; the floor is flooded with blue light and there’s a column cutting through it like the bow of a ship. It’s a fitting reminder of travels, journeys and homecomings, setting you in the right frame of mind for a stay at airport hotel. You might wish you were setting sail rather than taking flight, but you can save that for next time.
It’s very convenient for the airport as it’s directly connected to Terminal 2 and a few steps away from the free shuttle service that will take you to the other terminals. There are 240 guest rooms and 12 suites, all soundproofed to make sure you won’t be disturbed by any noise. Music and movies will help you to pass the time and you can connect to the internet through your TV to get all the latest travel updates.
Novotel Convention & Wellness Roissy Charles de Gaulle
If you’d rather get off the airport grounds and forget about the flight you’re about to take, this is the hotel to go for. It’s only 2 km away and there’s a free shuttle bus to the terminals, so it’s easy enough reach the airport when you need to. You can soothe away the stresses of travel in the spa, which has a swimming pool, sauna and Turkish steam bath. Massages and beauty therapies are on offer if you really want to treat yourself.
There are 289 guest rooms and suites in the hotel. They all have satellite TVs and WiFi access so you can stay connected to the outside world. If you feel like stretching your legs it’s just a 5 minute walk into the village of Roissy-en-France, where you can take a stroll in the park or try out one of the local restaurants.
