london-photo-588A visit to London would surely be incomplete without a visit to Theatreland of the West End which is a very popular area for world class, professional theatre performances. It stages the best shows in the world day in and day out and rivals Broadway for its innovative theatre performances.

As you will have to wait until night for the mesmerizing theatre performances to start up, you can start your day by taking a tour of the city of London and explore the various restaurants and shopping arcades nearby. You can take a short walk to the Soho Square which is a rejuvenating and enchanting experience in and of itself. It also is home to exquisite restaurants and shops where you can eat and shop for your favorite stuff. In Leicester Square you may be able catch some Londoners performing their street performances, which can be quite entertaining at times. You can also find a wide variety of shops there so you can shop until your heart is content.

Albeit all this daytime entertainment, the main attraction is really London’s West End Theatres. The main theatre district is located at the heart of the city surrounded by Oxford Street, Kingsway, Regent Street and The Strand to the South. The streets that are best known for the theatres are Dury Lane, The Strand and The Shaftesbury Avenue which has the famous ‘Hairspray’ show being staged and is a big hit. You can enjoy the ecstatic theatre and then dine at a number of excellent restaurants lined along these streets.

Her Majesty’s Theatre in London is now staging the Phantom of the Opera which is a well told story based on the gothic novel eliciting the life behind the stage of Opera. Just make sure you book your West End theatre tickets for this one beforehand, so that youcan also get a pre-show dinner booked for you as well.

At the Victoria Palace Theatre you’ll find Billy Elliot being staged all through the week. It’s an excellent musical adaptation of the movie and is one of the best shows at West End. An original musical score from Elton John will surely do the trick for mainstream theatre lovers.

If you want your hands on the untold secrets of the Wizard of Oz, just head to the Appollo Victoria Theatre for a hugely popular show, Wicked. It has all the elements which are necessary for an excellent theatre experience – drama, emotion and some eventful changes from the original Wicked to keep you interested throughout the show.

It’s always better to plan your show ahead of time and book your London theatre tickets in advance. That way you won’t find yourself scrambling for tickets at the last moment in case of a sell-out. The best way is to book tickets online.
