Top Kentucky Destinations: Experience the Thrill and Excitement of Rock Climbing In Kentucky

When you think about Kentucky, you will often think about horses and the world famous Kentucky Derby. However, you may want to consider that Kentucky offers more than just that. Here, you will see that you will also be able to experience some of the best rock climbing experiences in the country.

As a rock climbing fan, you may want to try visiting the Red River Gorge. Here, you will find great rock climbing areas and really test your skills in rock climbing to the limit.

If you are a rock climbing enthusiast, Kentucky is definitely the place for you. Red River Gorge is located in the Daniel Boone National Forest and it has an area of over 26,000 acres. Running for approximately 20 miles through the area, the Red River is a place where you will also be able to really appreciate the sheer beauty of nature.

In addition to that, the area around the river is filled with great rock climbing opportunities. There are multi-pitch walls, boulders, and rock climbing roofs to test your skills in rock climbing or your vertical technique. You can reach the Red River Gorge by car in about an hour from Lexington, Kentucky. Here, you will find plenty of trails and camping areas where you and your friends can really have fun during your rock climbing trip.

The great thing about this is that rock climbing is permitted through most of the gorge. However, you may want to keep in mind that there are few areas that are off limits because of the dangers it poses. Some of the cliffs or rocks are just too dangerous to attempt to scale. You can ask the forest rangers patrolling the area for a list. Just keep in mind that it is prohibited to climb or descend on any of the arches.

All the routes here are pre-set and you should keep in mind that rock climbers are not allowed to start new routes without permission from the rangers. If you don?t want to get arrested, you may want to play by the rules. The experience will be just as fun and it will also be a lot safer.

In Red River Gorge, here are some of the areas where you will be allowed to go rock climbing.

? Sky Bridge Ridge
? Long Wall

These areas have ratings that are well above five and the challenge is truly there that will really test your skills in rock climbing.

If you are in to sport climbing, Red River Gorge also offers Military Wall, Roadside Crag, Sky Bridge Ridge, Global Village, and Pebble Beach.

If you are new to the area, you may want to start out in the Pebble Beach and Sky Bridge Ridge area. This is a great way to start your rock climbing adventure in Kentucky. For sure, after you experience rock climbing in Kentucky, you will surely want to come back for more.
