If you mention Penang to a Malaysian, you will get an excited about its amazing cuisine. You will also hear about its cultural and historic attractions and finally about the beach holidays you could relax at.

The feeling you get when you step onto this island is one of a strange mix. Its corporate and business feel of the city is contradicted by the beautiful shorelines and people in shorts and shirts! Then amidst that lays an art of historic value for the culture geeks. It seems to be an island where you could do everything – explore, relax, feel modern, and also backdated- all at the same time!

Being one of the oldest colonial part of Malaysia, Penang holds many places with a rich historical value. These places can be visited and if you’re not sure where to go, check out the tourist centre in Georgetown near Fort Cornwallis to pick up a brochure.

If you like flea markets and the thrill of spending money on little things here and there, Penang is a lovely place to tour. Head up to Batu Ferringhi at night to walk through the night market lining the sides of the road and if you want a bigger shopping experience there are malls all over Penang for you to shop!

True foodies will appreciate the stretch of hawker stalls on the ever famous Gurney Drive. You can also head up to Batu Ferringhi to dine at some well recommended restaurants such as Eden, or The Ship. In the daytime look for the Kek Lok Si Temple or the Fort Cornwallis to admire the beauty of them.

The main language used here are English, Bahasa Malaysia and Hokkien. Other dialects can be understood but just may not be as widely used asin other parts of Malaysia.

You will sure enjoy your Penang holiday.
