Johannesburg is a city in the Gauteng province in northeastern South Africa, roughly eighty kilometers north of Pretoria, the nation’s capital. This city is one of the forty largest civic areas in the entire world, and is the corporate mecca of Africa. Visitors from across the globe are drawn to its economic upside, not to mention its climate. Year-round sunshine and occasional summer storms are mainstays of the area.

An Australian prospector named George Harrison is the first person to discover gold in a farmland known as Witwatersrand in 1886. He sold his discovered gold for 10 pounds and thus selling of gold got started and Johannesburg became known as “The City Of Gold”.

Things to see in Johannesburg

If you visit the Apartheid Museum, you’ll see a reflection of days gone by. You’ll see pictures of steel enclosures, and videos showing the underbelly of Apartheid. You’ll also be able to sit in the “Kasper,” a relic yellow and blue police van with and inside it you can watch footage from the Apartheid era. In addition, you’ll see weapons used to exact Apartheid-style injustice.

The Soweto Food Festival
The food festival provides a platform for showcasing the different tastes of international and local dishes. The international delicacies include foods from different coulters like Venda, Tswana etc. People visiting Soweto get the opportunity to taste the latest food trends from around the world. A group of chefs demonstrate the techniques and methods involved in preparing these food items and this provides the platform for cultural exchange.

Tourists can also experience South African beers along with their international versions at The Beer Garden and a wine route will familiarize people with South Africa’s best-known wines. At the same time grown ups are participating in beer and wine activities, kids can have fun with various activities in a safe location especially for them.

Word’s deepest pub
A huge, clingy lift enables the tourist to reach  220 meter underground to a donkey-stable in which donkeys were made to pull coco pans filled with gold-laden rocks, which were to be removed above the ground. This donkey-stable serves as a bar now and is held in one of the world’s richest and deepest gold mines.

Gold Reef City
Gold Reef City is nearly 6 kilometers to the south of the city and this is the place where you can understand how the mining system worked back in the day. Gold Reef City is not only famous for an old mine though. There is a hotel, restaurants and shops like SA Mint where you can purchase silver and gold ornaments. It also has some entertainment in the town square in a five-piece band that gives music to the listeners during the entire day.

A hands-on science centre is a good place to test yourself on various machines and experiments. The brave tourists can go for 28 rides, which includes the tower of terror and the river rapids.

Johannesburg was once a small mining town, but due to its high grade of cultural diversity at present, it has grown into a vibrant capitalist city. Any tourist with a catch for South African vibe is sure to enjoy this place.
