Explore New Mexico Vacations at the International Balloon Museum When you are looking to make your plans for your New Mexico tourism vacation getaway be sure to mark a visit to Albuquerque to see the International Balloon Museum! You will want to be there the first full week in October when the Balloon Fiesta is going on. For 9 straight days there are balloons soaring over the sky of the city in a colorful display of the more than 700 balloons that enter the event.
Including over three hundred resident balloonists from around the Albuquerque region you will be able to see balloons anytime you stay. In fact, you can probably book a flight to go up on one from one of the many operators in the area and see the wonder of the city from the sky.
If you arrive for the Balloon Fiesta make sure to stick around in the evening so you can see Balloon “Glowdeos”. This is where the balloonists’ fire up their propane burners to inflate the balloons against the night sky which leaves the whole sky aglow with psychedelic light bulbs! There are also varied styles of some of the balloons that you will appreciate seeing. There are dinosaurs, bumble bees, flowers, a stage coach and cow jumping over the moon. They all rise up in a mass ascension of “special shape rodeos” for your enjoyment.
While you are in the city be sure to go to the International Balloon Museum one of the best New Mexico attractions. You will be able to learn about ballooning, the engineering, culture, history, sport and art of the flights while you are visiting the Museum. It’s easy to find since it is right on the edge of the field.
The cost of admission is fair so you won’t have to limit yourself just one event, you will be able to attend many and still have enough cash to eat while at the park. There are vendors throughout the area to take care of your hunger pains while you are there.
Because you are going to be there in October you are going to want a jacket for the mornings. It will be around 40 degrees during the morning flights and warm up to around 70 as the day goes on. Dress in layers to be able to shed some when you get to warm. Be sure to use sunscreen with you because are at a high altitude and there is a chance for sunburn. Wear comfortable shoes, you will be walking and standing a lot so might as well be comfortable. You should bring lawn chairs into the field, unlike a number of events today. If you carry a large backpack with “treasures” be ready to have it inspected before you enter the park.
This is a family activity so make sure you plan to visit. Remember that a New Mexico vacations can be more than looking at museums and canyons; you can also look to the sky!
