When people think of Egypt holidays their minds turn immediately to the majestic pyramids, Sphinx and other ancient monuments. Egypt presents a history of humanity in a wildly dramatic visual form. It is a cradle of civilization, widening the eyes and unlocking the imaginations of visitors from around the globe to this wondrous land.
But Egypt holidays offer more than just one fascinating world waiting to be uncovered. For beyond the sun-parched desert there lies another incredible world in the shape of the crystal clear waters of the Red Sea.
Egypt provides one of the most stimulating, colourful and accessible areas for diving anywhere in the world. There are shipwrecks to be explored off the north coast for the hardened scuba diver, but it is within the shimmering waters of the Red Sea where the greatest natural and man-made treasures are to be found.
Scores of well-preserved wrecks can be explored in the straits of Tiran and Marsa Alam Indeed there are many vessels still waiting to be discovered that are known to have run into trouble in this body of water.
A particular bonus for divers is the close proximity of the coral reefs to the shoreline. At Sharm al Sheikh it extends only ten meters away from the land at a depth of only one meter, before plunging deep towards the sea bed, sometimes down for an incredible 800 meters. Around 200 reef species are supported by the Red Sea offering huge variety.
Divers here are treated to the full spectrum of colours from some amazingly bright, patterned fish. Amongst the thousands of breeds to be seen is the giant puffer fish, the blue spotted ray and the ever-popular clown fish. The climate also means that Egypt holidays are an all year round possibility.
Egypt is within easy reach for most travelers with direct flights from many UK city airports to several destinations throughout the country. There is also a fantastic range of accommodation available from basic to luxurious, but all in a comfortable and relaxing environment. Egypt provides a magical world of discovery both above and below the surface, which is just a few clicks away.
