Miami Beach Florida Is Not Miami

Miami Beach is not Miami. It often gets caught in the blanket of “greater Miami”, but it is a city unto itself. Its nickname is simply “The Beach” because that’s mostly what there is here.

Miami Beach is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the U.S. because of all the beaches. It’s really a narrow, seven mile long island just to the east of Miami proper. Technically it is a barrier island, but technical or not, it’s all about restaurants and attractions, places to shop and nightlife, and… oh yea…. those beaches.

As you can imagine, most activities center around the beach and the ocean. There is the usual array of beach toys from boogie boards to wave runners. You can rent bicycles and scooters. There are charter boats aplenty if you want to go fishing. Arrange for scuba diving or snorkeling trips. Even arrange for a floating wedding if that’s your heart’s desire.

Of course there is always the option of just lounging on the beach. The Surfrider Foundation (which is a non-profit organization that rates the quality of beaches in the U.S.) rated it as the premier urban beach in the country.

There is a beautiful boardwalk and an outdoor shopping mall… either great for strolling. Into golf? This skinny island even has a world class golf course.

South Beach (also known as SoBe) is the “hottest” beach in the area with nightlife and a wide sandy beach. It’s pretty much what everyone thinks a tropical beach should be…. wide and sandy, lined with palm trees, with clean, clear, turquoise water. It’s a great swimming beach year round. (But not too good for surfing because the waves are usually too small.)

South Beach has exuberant Art Deco architecture. Visit the Art Deco Historic District which has buildings constructed during the 1920s, 30s and 40s. The colors and styles are sure to make you smile.

The nightlife is particularly exuberant in trendy SoBe. You’ll mingle with quite an international set with tourists from Europe, Latin America and Canada as well as the U.S. Some of the most popular nightclubs can be very hard to get into, so if that’s what you want to do, you should talk to your hotel concierge to see if they have tickets or can at least give you tips on how to get in.

If you get tired of the beach and nightlife, there is a botanical garden, and there are several museums and galleries. You can catch a play at one of the theaters. The Miami City Ballet is based here as is the New World Symphony.

You’ll find a wide range of hotel accommodations from ocean front resorts and boutique hotels to budget hotels and hostels for frugal travelers. Depending on your travel budget, those lower end hotels might be a good option, because Miami Beach does tend to be a little expensive. Another option is to stay in Miami proper and just visit The Beach for day trips.

You can fly into either Miami International Airport or Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport. It is probably cheapest to take a taxi from the Miami Airport. The Fort Lauderdale airport is smaller and friendlier, but farther away (about 26 miles). A private shuttle might be cheaper than a taxi.

So for a great beach vacation right in a city, think about Miami Beach. Water sports, culture, shopping and night life… The Beach has it all.

Make Your Hotel Reservations In Advance For Your Spring Break Vacation.

There is one thing you should do if you are going to Florida for Spring break (or anywhere for that matter).  You need to make reservations for your hotel accommodations in advance because of the fact that so many people go to Florida for Spring break and there are literally times when you won’t find a hotel room causing an unwanted need to make other arrangements.

There are some hotels along the beach area in Southern Florida, however the rates for these rooms are higher because they are within walking distance to the beach. Many students who are planning to go to Florida for Spring break will actually have made their hotel reservations several months in advance.

Many of the hotels in Florida are four and five star rated hotels and have many accessories. Some of the hotels are equipped with fitness centers, spas, restaurants, pools, and so much more. There are hotels within blocks of each other so this only lets you know that there are many to choose from, however there are many students who go to Florida for Spring break.

Not all of the Spring breaks for students are exactly at the same time but they are pretty close, and some hotels offer discounts for returning visitors or spring break students. Additionally if there are a group of students going to Florida for Spring break, some hotels will offer a group discount to them.  This makes it easier on the students too.

The hotels that overlook the beaches in Florida are a bit more expensive as stated above however these hotels are highly rated hotels and there are different things you can do at these hotels, some have even got golf courses on the grounds of the hotel and others have night clubs within walking distance as well if the students want that “night on the town” without having to go far from the hotel.

Students who are planning on staying in Florida for spring break should start making their reservations and calling different hotels right after Christmas. This might sound odd but that’s how busy it gets in Florida during Spring break and the closer it gets the rates for the hotel rooms will go up. They can cost anywhere from $80.00 a night to several hundred dollars and this isn’t for the luxurious hotels, but this is also because of Spring break, this is also why most of the students who are planning to go spend spring break as a group.

This way the students are able to somewhat share the expenses and still have some funds left over to have a good time. By sharing the expenses the students also have the opportunity to do things they would not have been able to do like take wind surfing lessons or other things they can do while on their Spring break. The whole idea of this, is to save some money.

Why Do Students Pick Florida For Spring Break?

There are many reasons why students decide to go the Florida for Spring                            break, but according to some people I know they said they went to Florida because its usually warm during the spring break months and that was the biggest reason.

While others I talked to say they went to Florida because they loved the beach and the sand. These are youth from the church I attend and they were more than happy to tell me about their trip. According to the students, the worst part of the trip to Florida was all being in the SUV. Although most of them laughed about it when they spoke of it.

Apparently someone needed to make a pit stop, other than this the trip was a blast.  The students said they also pick Florida a lot because it’s become like a hang out, the place for spring break. They reunite with other students that go to different schools once a year and they really like this.

Florida is also surrounded by water on three sides so the students all agree they have several different places where they can catch the sand and sun. Some of them even attempt to surf though most of them agree they aren’t very good at it. A few of the students play guitar and the comment they had was that in Florida the sky seems different at night when they are playing their guitars. I don’t know if this is true or not, but to them it is.

Also, going to Florida isn’t like going overseas, though some students do and even though a lot of people really don’t consider this some students do. They mentioned that since nine eleven there is that doubt that sticks in their mind, and as long as
its pretty much a group of them, they know in Florida they will have a better chance at being able to have a really good time.

As far as driving, this isn’t a problem either. Someone always volunteers a vehicle and they usually go with whichever one has the most room. Florida is an all around great place for spring break, the students feel like not only do they get away from the ordinary, but they also get to see some of their friends from different parts of the United States. Some as far as Minnesota, although there have been a few that have met up in Florida for Spring break that were from as far away as Oregon. Florida is appealing to most all students.

Each year as the students make their plans for Spring break the usual destination is always Florida. This is just the place where the students feel they can escape from all their studies and hang out among those of their own age. Without dealing with the pressures of mid terms, or parents, and anything else that crowds their minds during the time that they aren’t on their spring break, so to them Florida is their retreat and the love it.

Orlando Is An Enjoyable Senior Vacation Destination.

You don’t have to be a senior citizen to find most amusement parks like the Disney parks, Universal’s two large parks and Sea World daunting. The amount of walking that is entailed and the huge crowds can be enough for anyone to have second thoughts about spending an entire day there. Many times grandparents find themselves at these same parks they took their own kids to in order to relive the experience through their grandchildren’s eyes.

That doesn’t mean that the crowds are any thinner or the walking is any less. But, is Orlando a destination that lures seniors to come on their own? The major parks sure hope so and for those people who just adore everything Disney, they will certainly make time to revisit Orlando every few years or so.

There are many other amusements abundant in Orlando besides the parks. Anyone who enjoys the game of golf will have to spend at least one vacation here playing as many of the more than 50 stellar courses that are in and around Orlando. Golf packages are quite reasonable and sometimes, a room and a round of play package can amount to less than the round of play itself. In fact, most people who have played some of the beautiful 9- and 18-hole courses have booked their next golf vacation to Orlando as soon as they return home.

Another amazing sports activity in Orlando that is untouchable compared to anywhere else is shopping. There are almost as many shopping malls, outlets, and flea markets in Orlando as there are golf courses.

Making The Most Of Your Disney Epcot Vacation

Poor Epcot. It is the one Disney amusement park that has gotten labeled as the “boring” park. Kids, even many adults can’t seem to find the thrill and the enjoyment in it. Well, that view just isn’t true. Epcot is one of the most interesting and fun of all of Disney’s parks. Admittedly, it is a different type of fun. While there aren’t as many thrill rides as the other parks, — not even Animal Kingdom, which if you aren’t all that into animals of the African savanna, Animal Kingdom can be a pretty uninteresting park for some.

The key to enjoying each of the Disney parks is to see it from the point of view of its creators. Disney parks include many great rides, but a thrill park isn’t always their goal. If it were, all of Disney’s parks would just be different versions of Six Flag parks except theirs’ would be cleaner and have better decorating. No, Disney makes a definite statement and takes us on a completely different adventure with every park it creates. Their eye for detail and authenticity allows the visitor to immerse himself or herself into the theme if they only let themselves.

The name Epcot stands for “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”. That was Walt Disney’s concept. To have a park that was similar to the World’s Fair, but have it be on display continuously. Epcot is the place to showcase all of the technological advances and what the future holds in these fields. Mr. Disney also wanted this to be the think tank for experts and companies to develop future communities. Read more

Unique Resort Experiences In Orlando.

Orlando is full of resorts, hotels, time-shares, condominiums, and other places to stay. The competition between them can become quite fierce. Each one is vying for your vacation dollars and in order to win you over, some of them offer very unique events and experiences to add to your vacation enjoyment. It may be the addition of a luxurious spa or the addition of specialty cruises, but they all want to “one up” the other. All of this competition is great for the common vacation consumer who now has an abundance of choices in booking the perfect stay for themselves and their family.

The Disney resorts have all taken the idea of unique resort perks to an all new level. This company knows how to come up with a complete vacation experience package that is very hard to beat. For instance, people who stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in the savanna view rooms can awake every morning to wild animals such as zebras, giraffes, and gazelles roaming in the natural savanna just outside of their balcony. Nothing like having your morning coffee as a giraffe looks you in the eye!

The Grand Floridian is based on San Diego’s Hotel del Coronado and has that old world veranda style charm, but on a huge scale. This resort is linked with Disney’s monorail system, which allows it to be minutes from any park. The Grand Floridian is most unique for its weddings. They offer any couple a fairytale wedding full of special one-of-a-kind service and one of the most romantic services that you could ever find. Read more

A little know travel tip for a Disney World vacation in Orlando.

Anyone who is visiting Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for the first time can benefit from tips from people who are very familiar with the parks and how they are run. There are so many things to do and out of the way places to experience at each of the four Disney parks that it is impossible to do them all in an average one week vacation. Knowing some of these tips beforehand can help you to narrow down the best of the best and eliminate some of the hassle.

Let’s start with some general tips when visiting one or all of the Disney parks. If summer vacation or winter or spring breaks are the only time you can visit because of the children’s school schedules, be prepared. These are the busiest times at all of the parks and resorts. But, if you are able to be flexible, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are the least crowded and yet the most festive at all of the parks. The last three weeks in January and most of October are also times when the attendance is a bit lower.

Always buy your ticket packages either before you leave home or at least a day before you plan on going to the first park. There are many packages and the line to enter the park will be long, but if you also have to stand in line first to buy tickets your wait will be twice as long. Any Disney stores in any mall around the country sells ticket packages to the parks, as does any AAA office. Multi day tickets do not last forever as they used to. Once a ticket is used at the first park it will expire in 14 days. It is cheaper to package many days together now in order to save some of them for your next trip to Orlando. That can still be done. Your ticket can be made to have no expiration date for a small additional fee. Read more

The Cost Of Renting A Beach House In Florida.

When making vacation plans that include a visit to the beaches of Florida; consider renting a beach house. Not only will you have all the comforts of home available, you could also save a considerable amount of money.

Florida is divided into eight sections: Northwest, North Central, Northeast, Central West, Central, Central East, Southwest and Southeast. Many of the popular tourist attractions such as Walt Disney World Resort and Wet ‘N Wild Water Park are located in Central Florida. However, there are no beach house rentals in this area.

Since this article focuses on the cost of renting a beach house, Central Florida rental costs are not included. There are numerous vacation rental homes available in this area; many of which include pools. To locate reputable resources for vacation rental homes in Central Florida visit the “Official Florida Website”.

Most beach house rental properties are attractively furnished and include basic amenities such as cooking appliances and cookware, linens and towels, televisions, stereos, telephones, and Internet access. Many are equipped with swimming pools, hot tubs, spas and outdoor showers.

Some Florida beach house rental properties include access to golf courses or community clubhouses. Others include boats and other watercraft rental. Many include amenities for children such as inflatable backyard swimming pools and water slides, play houses, and swing sets.

Most Florida beach house rentals are offered by private individuals or property management organizations. Some are pet-friendly and many offer handicap accessibility. Beach houses can be rented daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or for an entire season. It’s important to note there is a 9.5 percent lodging tax added to rental rates.

Last, but not least, nearly every beach house owner requires a 50 percent deposit due within ten days from the date you make your reservation. Additionally, most charge a Reservation Fee (usually $50 to $150); and a refundable Damage Deposit (approximately $200 to $500).  Other fees may include pet deposits or cancellation penalties.  Read more
